Stan Walker- The Climb (Australian Idol- Top 4)

Filed under: Music — jaysonyang @ 2:20 pm

I have nothing against Miley Cyrus, but this is bigger and better than the original. Stan gives the song the soul and power that it deserves.  Wow, just wow. :-) (Click here if you can’t see the video.)

The Ploning Experience

Filed under: Celebrities, News and Events, TV and Movies — jaysonyang @ 10:55 am

Super tagal na pero it’s worth the space! :)

Ploning’s gala premiere at the Meralco Theater, May, 2008.

Grabbed some pics from my multiply site and thought of sharing them to you for more pagyayabang. Haha. Seriuosly, I want to keep an account of the event in this blog. I was lucky to receive an invitation to a movie that shows what Pinoy filmmakers and artists can do. Thanks for the invite Mr. Estacio. :)

Was able to take pictures with Ploning herself, Ms. Judy Ann Santos, Ms. Gina Pareño aka Lola Gets, and other cast members. Ploning is a masterpiece, best of 2008! :)

Tuldok at Kuwit*

Some Realizations

Filed under: Writings — jaysonyang @ 12:23 pm

I just want to share these random thoughts. I hope they make sense.  :)

  1. It’s amazing to think how the things that made you cry before make you laugh today.
  2. Sometimes, it takes one super typhoon to realize that it is time for you to move on.
  3. Hope gives you the reason to wake up even in your darkest hour.
  4. Remembering your first heartbreak always has a sad part.
  5. First love is second most powerful to your one great love. And yes, your first and one great love can be one.
  6. You cannot choose the person you’ll fall in love with, but staying in love with that person for the next years of your life can be a choice.
  7. Making a choice or a decision is never easy if you don’t know the things that make you happy.
  8. A friend is a lover. A lover may not be a friend, but when a lover becomes a friend, the lover’s friendship becomes the greatest.

UP Diliman’s take on this year’s National Artist Awards

Filed under: News and Events — jaysonyang @ 9:35 am

SPARE THE ARTS FROM SPOILS

We artists and cultural workers of the University of the Philippines at Diliman strongly take exception to how the National Artists were named this year.

First, the spirit of the process was not upheld in the final selection of the awardees.  We concede that any subjective decision of this nature gives rise to a range of diverse views. What we cannot accept is the corruption of this already fraught process. The art community judiciously took part in this exercise, with the hope that an evenhanded process would produce truly worthy National Artists. This good faith in government has been subverted. It has made us distrust any effort to involve us in what may ultimately turn out to be a charade, or a farce in fact, and to regard the cultural bureaucracy as helplessly beholden to the contrivances of politicians and their courtiers.

Second, there was a demonstration of significant indiscretion, or even egregious imprudence, on the part of the officials who administered the awards. It was totally amiss—unethical, dishonest, morally bereft, and abusive—that those who oversaw the process ended up being honored and reaping the gains of their own auspice. We, therefore, deplore the utter contempt for the vital value of fairness in favor of personal ambitions of Sicilian proportions.

In light of these sentiments, we call for the immediate review of the law governing the National Artist awards and the rules that carry it out. We are specifically concerned about the power of the President, acting as a patron, to supersede the judgment of art’s public sphere and the unbecoming conduct of those in the civil service who are sworn to transcend conflicts of interest and defend democratic ideals.

Finally, as members of the community of scholars, we demand and expect the full commitment to integrity, excellence, and the tireless toil for the greater good.

National Artists deserve a process equal to their stature.
